Synopsis

This hilarious play introduces us to Bob & Maureen Woods for the first time.

Especially written for the amateur stage the play with a cast of 8 is a non-stop roller coaster ride of laughs and mistaken identities.

The Woods family are gathered around the television for the national lottery draw and Maureen can’t believe it when the pub syndicate’s numbers come up. Unfortunately Bob never bought a ticket so they decide that they will have to use the money that they have been saving for their daughter, Roxanne’s wedding to pay out the syndicate with. Roxanne then arrives home to announce that she is getting married, and what’s worse their son Kevin has just given away the vase containing their savings to the Reverend Dorkins for a jumble sale!

There’s nothing else for it. They will have to find the money from elsewhere so Maureen starts knitting balaclavas for a burglary!

Lots of fun ensues as we meet the prospective in-laws Stephen and Helen who are few rungs higher up the social ladder than the Woods. Will Roxanne’s relationship with Charles survive?

If you enjoy this play what not try “Oh Comrade! What a lovely pair!” when the Wood’s family return for more chaotic confusion!
