It seems a lifestyle the dapper Sergeant Angus Forsyth might aspire to, though his shabby superior, Inspector Popkin, could never fill the bill. Three other major characters are Cornel Hellas, a wealthy surgeon and charming villain. Annette Rivet, a beautiful French woman, his mistress.
