| Over Exposure
|
| Ann Gawthorpe, Lesley Bown
|
| A fast-moving and hilarious farce, ’Over Exposure’ is simple to stage - it only requires a double bed, a large cupboard and a red light. During a professional production in Bristol it was played to curtains with great effect and to appreciative audiences. Written in the traditional style it provides plenty of scope for actors to hone their comedy skills, both verbal and physical. There are 4M and 2F parts.

Synopsis
Small-town family photographer Fred Fittleworth, wants to be mayor. To fund this he agrees to his assistant Len’s suggestion that he take some photos for a magazine called Fifty Plus thinking it is for women aged fifty years and over. He even books his wife Daphne, chairwoman of the local Anti-sleaze Committee, to model for it.
When he discovers the magazine’s true nature he is tempted to call the whole thing off. But he goes ahead because he needs the money, and also because the magazine proprietor is a local villain who doesn’t take kindly to disappointment. The photography session is set to take place in the empty flat above his shop, the only room big enough to hold a double bed. All will be well if Fred can keep the session a secret from Daphne, who on the same day has organised a visit from Edwin Anstruther, an EU funding officer. She also wants her mother to move into the flat.
Adding to his problems the well-endowed model, Marilyn, is more interested in alternative therapies than posing and Vic’s gopher, Hans, a myopic German with a garbled grasp of the English language, is Marilyn’s boyfriend who disapproves of her stripping off.
To get his pictures Fred is forced to dress up as his own sister and immediately attracts the attentions of the over-sexed Anstruther who promises EU funding if ‘Miss Fittleworth’ will marry him. Meanwhile Daphne who drinks a cup of Marilyn’s herbal teas designed to improve a flagging libido, is caught in a compromising situation with Hans. Then Anstruther, minus his trousers, is caught in a compromising situation with Marilyn.
Amid rising chaos and confusion, Fred struggles to complete the assignment, keep Marilyn hidden from Hans, cope with Anstruther, not get caught by his wife and stop his mother-in-law from moving into the flat.
