Café Contentious and Public Speaking Anne Knight Cafe Contentious is a one act play about six women who form a ladies luncheon club and have diverse opinions on just about everything including the aging process, marriage, sex, shop-lifting, divorce and life’s vicissitudes. A good challenge for actresses. Public Speaking. Four men each pop out for a lunchtime drink. The pub is packed so they are forced to share a table. One of the older men is a retired Diplomat, another is a local resident of long standing. The third is a young man who works in a cocktail bar. They are joined by an aging man who was once a famous pop star but is now reduced to touring the country as part of a Sixties Night show.
