Cast Summary
The Snow Queen: 11 principal parts, 8 named chorus, 4 Ice Maidens

Synopsis
An evil being, the Snow Queen, snatches a boy called Kay from the village of Crumpleton and
carries him off to her palace, deep in her world of ice and snow. Bewitched by a spell that she casts on him, Kay forgets all about his former life as the village rose expert and concentrates on growing roses for the Queen, Roses being the one thing she loves from the "normal" world.
Kay’s sister, Gerda, is however determined to rescue him. She sets off alone but soon encounters an Old Lady (who is really a fairy!) who, in return for an act of kindness bestows upon her a magic cloak to help her in her task. She goes on to meet Prince Florizel and his sister Princess Fleur who decide to lend a hand together with assorted villagers who have rushed to catch her up to help. They find her in the Prince and Princess’s hunting lodge which is in the charge of their loyal Butler Mr Crocket or Mr Croquet as he prefers to be known. Mr Crocket is having troubles of his own - food and drink are regularly being stolen, from the lodge by an unknown being who turns out to be the Yeti. The villagers have never seen him but are convinced that he is big and fierce. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Yeti, although he does’nt know it, is being pursued by the Snow Queen who wants him as a pet because she is bored rigid and exasperated by the efforts of her attendants, the Ice Maidens to provide some entertainment.
The would-be rescuers head off together towards the castle. They are hampered by the arrival of two useless removal men, Bashit and Bendit. One of the villagers, a newcomer called Mr Cracker-Barrel is not sure what to make of the Dame’s not so subtle advances in his direction but is eventually persuaded to succumb to her charms. Eventually of course the Snow Queen is vanquished, the Dame gets her man and Gerda marries her Prince. Mr "Croquet" finally meets the Yeti and they both get legless together over a bottle of wine. A Happy Ending all round except for the Snow Queen. All that remains is a pool of icy water, with her sparkling, shimmering crown of ice in the centre…
