Synopsis
Set in the plague-ravaged Naples of the late 19th Century Vendetta tells a twisted tale of betrayal and revenge. Based on a novel by Marie Correlli, the story is told of a man mistakenly buried alive, his escape, and return home to find his wife and best friend have been lovers and that he has been quickly forgotten.
He hatches a plan of revenge, which involves him creating a new persona for himself in order to return the household as a long lost relative. He enlists the aid of his old nurse, Bela. The first climax to the story is to propose to Nina and enrage Guido. They fight a duel whereupon Guido is killed.
In the second and final climax Fabio to marries Nina and takes her down into the vault where he was buried to reveal who he really is and that it is intention is to leave her there to die. This has the effect of turning her brain. When Fabio realizes this, he relents. Bela arrives, however to ensure that Nina gets her just desserts.
