Synopsis

Aladdin happens to be in the Market Place one day when he sees the beautiful Princess Tofu Nose, the very spoiled and indulged but sweet daughter of the Emperor and Empress of Old Peking. Aladdin immediately falls in love with the Princess but soon realises he will never win her hand while he has no money. Then enters the evil magician, Abanazar and his dogsbody come bumbling assistant Hi Pong. Abanazar has been looking for someone just like Aladdin, kind and innocent, who he can use to help him steal a magic lamp which will give him greater magical powers and wealth.

Abanazar introduces himself to Widow Twanky, Aladdin’s Mum, Wishy Washy, his brother and Aladdin and with many compliments and promises of money persuades Widow Twanky to let Aladdin go with him to help him find the magic lamp. After a long and tiring journey they reach the enchanted cave where the lamp is kept. Aladdin is frightened so Abanazar gives him a magic ring which he tells him will keep him safe. Aladdin is pushed down into the cave but he finds it very scary, especially when he encounters skeletons, however they are friendly and point him towards the magic lamp, which is sitting in the midst of many jewels and gold coins. Aladdin fills his pockets with the jewels and gold, and plans to give the lamp to Abanazar who is calling on Aladdin to hand it up to him. However the skeletons warn Aladdin that Abanazar is planning to leave him in the cave. Aladdin then refuses to give the lamp to Abanazar which causes him to get really angry and cast a spell which shuts Aladdin in the cave.

Aladdin fears that he won’t get out, when he remembers the ring Abanazar gave him. He starts to fiddle with it when suddenly there is a loud bang and Ping the Fairy of the Ring (A is a bit of a weakling, and not the brightest spark in the cave) appears. Ping’s powers are not strong enough to free Aladdin but she tells him to rub the lamp and the Genie of the Lamp, (who is a larger than life character and heavily into Rap music) appears and helps Aladdin escape from the cave.

Meanwhile back at the Market Place, Widow Twanky and Wishy Washy are at the Carnival. Widow Twanky is worried sick about Aladdin and decides to ask the Police for help. Enter Police 1 & 2, a comedy due who do silly jokes and slapstick.

Aladdin then arrives back at the Market pockets bulging with diamonds and gold and of course the Lamp. His Mum, Widow Twanky and Wishy Wahsy are delighted to see him and even more delighted to see the treasure. Aladdin tells them he is going immediately to ask for the Princess Tofu Nose’s hand in marriage and sets of towards the Palace with his Mum and Wishy Washy accompanying him, there he persuades the Emperor and Empress, by showing them his new found wealth, and they agree that he can marry the Princess.

Meanwhile Abanazar realizes that Aladdin has got the ring and will be free from the cave. He tries to find out what Aladdin has done with the Lamp and when he finds out the Princess has it he manages to trick her and steal the Lamp, and also kidnap her, whisking her away on a magic carpet to his tent. Aladdin soon finds out Abanazar has the Lamp and the Princess and calls upon the Fairy of the Ring to help him. With the Fairy’s help he manages to find Abanazar, the Princess and reclaim the Lamp.

The Pantomime finishes with Aladdin regaining the Lamp and all the riches and having a wonderful wedding to Princess Tofu Nose.

This script is full of many rich and funny characters from the two slapstick policemen to the snooty, proud Empress and henpecked Emperor and their grand but fawning servant the Grand Vizier. Not to mention the comedy part of the Genie (a really modern Rap star) Ping, Fairy of the Ring and Hi Pong dogsbody to the truly evil, nasty Abanazar (A splendid part for any baddie!). Off course central to this is Aladdin, Widow Twanky and Wishy Washy. (Widow Twanky and Wishy Washy a great comedy double act).

Altogether there are fourteen main principals supported by a chorus of villagers and extra part characters. All blending together to bring laughter, fun, magic and colour to this traditional Christmas pantomime.
