Synopsis
The story opens in Atlantis where wicked Princess Sharkina is on trial for high treason. When found guilty, she takes her sister, Oceanna, hostage and forces their father, the Grand Godolphin to relinquish his throne and surrender the key to great Neptune’s treasure house to her.
Later, not satisfied with ruling Atlantis, Sharkina employs the services of Redd Rhumm and his pirates in her quest for world domination.
In Portsmouth, Captain Cutlass and his crew are preparing to embark aboard HMS Scuttle on a mission to capture Redd Rhumm and bring him to justice.
With the Scuttle bound for the West Indies, Purdy Peppercorn, landlady of the Admirable Admiral, uses her ample charms to persuade the Captain to take her along on what she thinks will be a nice relaxing cruise.
Meanwhile, her daughter Polly longs to sail aboard the Scuttle to go in search of her lost love, so when gauche young midshipman Jack Courage comes along looking for the ship, she seizes the opportunity to assume his identity and join the crew.
Dazed and wearing Polly’s frock, Jack is confronted by a press gang made up of Bosun and Winkle who, on discovering Jack is not a girl; press him into service aboard the Scuttle.
At sea, confusion over Jack and Polly’s identities is resolved just before Redd Rhumm and his pirates capture the Scuttle and take all, but Polly and Winkle, back to Atlantis.
With the help of Squibs and her magic kelp, Polly and Winkle go beneath the waves where more comic adventures take place - including Purdy’s entanglement with a giant sea monster - before everyone is rescued and peace restored to Atlantis.

ONE LINERS FLY FASTER THAN MUSKET BALLS
Pirates from Atlantis pack a powerful punch on a pinched poop. No pun goes unplundered as Bright Lights Theatre Company set a standard in festive fare which others with a full set of stage sails will be hard pressed to emulate. Audience reaction reveals all. Tuesday's opening night produced belly laughs from opening number to final curtain.
There are no flat spots; no padding.
Complemented by Jo Websters adroit direction, Trevor Hughes' skillfully penned and innovative sea-going saga piles gag upon gag rendering landlubbers legless with laughter. Scurvy crews they maybe, but when Captain Augustus Cutlass's HMS Scuttle clashes with, pirate chief, Redd Rhumm's cutthroats it is difficult to believe that the action is constrained on the Little Common Methodist Church Hall's tiny stage.
Broadsides of broad and bawdy humour blast from the quarterdeck as Bright Lights press-gang newcomers aboard and reveal a striking spread of new and engaging talent. Never one to resist buckling his swash, Trevor Hughes fits Cutlass's boots nicely with wife, Sue, romping the role of inn keeper-cum-ship's cook, Purdy Peppercorn. Hisses and boos pursued Petra Holland whenever her evil Princess Sharkina sinks her teeth into another victim. Swimming attendance on her are guards Mr Fish and Mr Chips, Clare Farman and Barbara Welford. Scene-stealing is Ben Milton's forte. From camp crawl to bending backstroke, his Winkle is outstanding despite Neil Trimby's tough Bosun's attempt to take him in hand.
Pirates from Atlantis plumb the ocean depths with aplomb as Pete Riggs ruthless Redd Rhumm sides with Sharkina in her quest to rob her father, the Grand Godolphin, (John Bryant) of Neptunes treasure. Popular song are adapted to advantage, mature mermaids lure the unwary on to rocks of laughter and one-liners fly like musket balls. Pauline Neeser is the scene-setter sea urchin Squibs, Charlotte Farman the winsome Princess Oceanna, Alan Gates helms the Scuttle through uncharted waters and Emma Hollamby and Sam Webster debut as Polly Peppercorn and midshipman Jack Courage only to swap roles before Neptune's gate-guardian, Cycloptopus, eliminates evil in a single gulp.
Pantomime can sail off established sea lanes if this amount of talent is packed on a pinched poop *.
John Dowling, Bexhill Observer
* The pinched poop referred to the acting area; a mere 14'0" x 15'6"'.
