Synopsis

The baby Mowgli is abandoned by his parents in the jungle but is saved from the jaws of the tiger, Shere Khan and brought up by Mother Wolf. He is accepted into the wolf pack by the pledge of Bagheera, the panther, and is taught the laws of the jungle by Baloo, the bear. But the young wolves follow Shere Khan, who has sworn to kill Mowgli and, rejected by the pack, Mowgli leaves the jungle and finds his way to the hut of Messua and Raja, who befriend him, thinking he might be their own lost child.

But the villagers are annoyed by Mowgli’s mischievous ways and brand him ‘wolf boy’. One of them, Buldeo, the hunter, thinks he ought to be shot! To keep him out of trouble, they give him the job of herding the cattle of Govind, the village Headman - a job Mowgli uses, with the help of his wolf friend, Grey Brother, to bring about the death of Shere Khan, but at the same time causing the cattle to stampede.

The villagers are furious and pursue Mowgli for vengeance, but are thwarted by Bagheera, who manages to get Buldeo’s gun and lead the three villagers a merry dance! Meanwhile, Mowgli returns to the jungle Council Rock bearing the hide of Shere Khan and followed by Messua and Raju, who have been cast out of the village for protecting the wolf boy. It is now that Mowgli must decide whether to remain in the jungle with his animal friends and become the new leader of the pack (and even the young wolves give him their grovelling support), or face a different, possibly hostile, future in the world of men.

There are dramatic and humorous scenes in jungle and village, a variety of animal and human characters and some songs - jolly and sad - to help the play on its way.
