Eddie Holland is a drunken womanising sports photographer who has reluctantly arrived to cover the game when a colleague is taken ill. Lionel Fishpool is an ardent England supporter and environmental health officer whom no-one wants to share with. Eddie decides to take Lionel under his wing and teach him the ways of the world but gets more than he bargained for and ends up nearly losing his job. The hotel is run by brother and sister Jarmo and Minna who soon become involve in a bizarre series of misunderstandings when Eddie’s wife Beryl and daughter Joanna unexpectedly arrive to celebrate Joanna’s birthday.
