Synopsis
An ideal one-act play for three women. The set is a hat shop. Karen is having a bad morning in her shop which is owned by her husband. Her assistant doesn’t turn up, she can’t find the takings from the previous week and her daughter wants to borrow some hats. Jenny comes in to choose a hat for her son’s wedding when she receives a phone call to say he is getting married in the Caribbean. Jenny knows she cannot afford this trip and she finds herself confiding in Karen. Meanwhile another customer Bella is helping herself to the stock. Karen and Jenny exchange confidences about their selfish husbands. Meanwhile Bella has been hiding behind a screen and eavesdropping. When she is challenged by Karen she claims to be “The Mystery Customer” who has been sent by Karen’s husband to check on the stock losses. Bella makes her escape as Karen is distracted by Jenny who has identified Karen’s husband from a photograph as being someone with whom she had an embarrassing experience during a driving lesson. Furthermore Karen intercepts a text from her shop assistant making it clear that she had a relationship with Karen’s husband. When she finds the takings hidden away she decides to use them to take revenge on her husband to accompany and pay for Jenny to go to her son’s wedding in the Caribbean.
